On June 14, 2019, Modern Horizons was released as an expansion for Magic. Modern Horizons, the 2019 innovation product, was developed for drafting. Modern Horizons contains randomly inserted premium versions of all 254 cards (5 snowy basic lands, 101 commons, 80 uncommons, 53 rares, 15 mythic rares).
This set introduced new cards to Modern without allowing them to be played in Standard. It contains 209 new cards and (with the exception of Snow Basics) only reprints that were not previously legal in Modern. Due to the complexity of the set, Modern Horizons was originally titled "Timespiral / Planar Chaos 2" in concept.
Modern Horizons contains no new mechanics. Instead, there are nearly forty non-recurring mechanics in the set. The R&D department agreed that every Modern mechanism up to Dragons of Tarkir could be used in this set.
A Modern Horizons display has 36 boosters and each Modern Horizons booster contains 15 cards:
